Who, What, When, Where, How

Who am I?  I'm an Arizona native, born and raised.  I love my home state.  I love the variety of people, topography, vegetation, and animal life.  My family is here as well.  The few who have left came back.

I LOVE the weather.  Cold weather and I do not get along.  Snow is OK to visit but I wouldn't want to live in it.  Give me a hot summer day in my favorite state any day, because I can always drive for an hour and be in the mountains.

What is Arizona Beginner Gardening?  It is exactly what it sounds like.  I'm a beginner gardener.  Sure, I've done some amateur landscaping at my home, but I've decided to try my hand at succulents, house plants, vegetable gardening, and chickens.  Chickens aren't gardening, you might say.  However, I intend to use them as a law mower so, yes, they are.

Gardening can pretty much be a year-round activity in Arizona.  Just like most activities here.  Are you jealous yet (well, of course not if you live here already).

I reside in a small home in a Phoenix suburb.  It's and adorable little ranch on a relatively spacious lot, when compared to what newer homes usually come with.  In addition we have a flood irrigated lot.  In the Phoenix area this is a great opportunity.  You can plant just about anything, the water is super cheap, and you simply have to be willing to get up at 3 o'clock in the morning a couple of times a year to take advantage of it.

How will you be accomplishing all this, you say?  By experimenting, probably by killing a few things (hopefully no chickens), by reading, by visiting the nursery and picking the staff's brains.  I think you get the picture.  Then I'll be sharing what I discover and hope someone out there can benefit.

In summary...as an untrained, read it off the web, trial and error kind of person maybe I can give some first hand advice to fellow gardeners.  I'll be growing vegetables, succulents, house plants, various other fauna and chickens.  Every plant or animal will have different needs during the year and I'be updating my readers on what I discover about those needs.  I'll also be sharing plenty of photos of my yard and garden.  So join me on this blog journey and we'll learn together.
